Breast pain, also know as mastalgia , is a common condition that affects up to two-thirds of women in the UK for a variety of reasons and is usually nothing serious. Right before your period, your breasts can ache, feel swollen and tender. If you experience breast pain at unusual times in your cycle, this could be stress-related. Over the course of the menstrual cycle it's completely normal to experience sore breasts, as changes take place in your breast tissue when your body is preparing for the possibility that you will conceive.
Most women develop breast pain mastalgia at some stage in life. In most cases the pain develops in the days just before a period. In some cases the pain is not related to periods. The pain is often mild but in some women it is more severe and can affect quality of life. If needed, treatment options include painkillers and rub-on topical anti-inflammatory drugs.
Although women are more likely to experience sore breasts, this can affect anyone who has breast tissue. Breast pain is rarely a symptom of cancer, and there are several reasons why perfectly healthy breasts may start to hurt. One of the most common causes of breast pain is an ill-fitting bra.
A touch random but wanted to ask, as my friends all seem to think its just plain weird. I get sore breast at certain times in my cycle but never this painful or for this long. I was actually convinced I was pregnant. Took a test and everything. Since subsided… weird body!
